IndiGo to operate Boeing 777 aircraft – seeks DGCA nod for wet leasing

  • Indigo Airlines has pursued aviation regulator DGCA’s consent to Wet Lease Boeing 777 aircraft
  • Boeing 777 will be operating on Delhi to Istanbul route
  • It is the first time that the carrier will be installing wide-body parts into its fleet and the move also comes against the backdrop of global supply chain issues affecting aircraft deliveries
  • Earlier Indian Airlines were allowed to use wide-body planes on wet lease for up to 1 year as it takes efforts to make the country a key International hub for air traffic
  • After being approved by MoCA, Indigo now seeks approval from DGCA with due procedure
  • Under the Wet Lease arrangement planes are chartered with operating crew and engineers
  • It is permitted for a short period to tackle supply hindrances and guarantee that airfares do not increase considerably
