In the event of an engine failure after takeoff or go around, the FAC (Flight Augmentation Computer) adjusts the sideslip indication to help the pilot achieve optimal climb performance. Sideslip index in this case is called beta target. It is trapezoidal in shape and displayed below roll index.
The sideslip target color changes from yellow to blue, and this feature is applicable during both takeoff and go-around, provided the following conditions are met:
- Configuration 1, 2, or 3 is selected.
2. At least one engine’s N1 is greater than 80% or one thrust lever is set equal to or greater than MCT.
3. The difference between the two engine N1 values exceeds 35%.
The blue sideslip indicator guides the pilot on the precise amount of rudder needed, helping to maintain optimal climb performance in asymmetric thrust conditions.
When the index is centered, sideslip is still present, but it matches the sideslip target for optimal aircraft performance.
