Orient Flight School is one of the leading Pilot Training Institutions in India which is approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Government of India. It was established in 1994 and right now Orient Flight School operates in Puducherry and has trained hundreds of pilots, including those formally sponsored by the state Governments of Jharkhand and Karnataka over the last 18 years. The flight training at Orient Flight School meets international standards, in accordance with regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India.
Orient Flight School manages one of the largest and most versatile fleets in the country. They have a fleet of thirteen aircraft, five Cessna 152, five Cessna 172, a Piper Seneca III, a Beech craft King Air C90A and a Beechjet 400. The fleet strength is set to increase in the near future. The Cessna and the Seneca are used for Single and multi-engine pilot training respectively. The C-90 and the Beech jet are used exclusively for charter operations.
OFS is the Aviation Wing, under the Hindustan Group of Institutions, with its Head Quarters at Chennai. The Group has been offering a wide range of courses in Engineering, Management, Applied Sciences and Aviation for over three decades.
Orient Flight Aviation Academy
Orient Flight Aviation Academy is a unit of Orient Flights Pvt. Ltd. 2015, Orient Flight Aviation Academy operates in Mysore with its sister concern Orient Flights School at Pondicherry.The flight training at OFAA meets international standard in accordance with regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India.
OFAA has fleets of 3 Cessna 172 aircraft. The Fleet strength is set to increase in the near future. OFAA is the Aviation wing under the Orient Flights Pvt. Ltd. (OFPL) with its headquarters at Chennai.

OFPL has been in operation for the past 18 years, since 1994 and has been keeping pace with the changing environment of the Aviation Maintenance Regulatory field. In the recent times, DGCA has brought in many regulatory changes, to keep in tune with the International standards and recommended practices, specified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
DGCA Approval
Orient Flight Aviation Academy (OFAA) obtained its initial approval as a Flying Training Organisation (FTO), to operate at Puducherry airport on 23 Dec 94, vide DGCA letter no. AV-22011/6/93-FG, dated 9 Jan 95. This initial approval was periodically renewed every year, during the past 17 years.

COURSES OFFERED AT ORIENT FLIGHT CLUB
ASSISTANT FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR ENDORSEMENT PROGRAMME
It is not necessary, that every student pilot wishes to join an airline alone. There are many pilot aspirants, who would like to make their career, as flying instructors. For such enthusiasts, OFS offers the AFI endorsement programme, to convert ordinary pilots, into Assistant Flight Instructors. The extent of training varies from individual to individual. However, a fresh CPL holder may require about 70 hours of flying training and associated ground classes.

LICENSE RENEWAL & FOREIGN LICENSE CONVERSION
License Renewal
OFAA offers a License Renewal Course for PPL, CPL and CPL/IR license holders in India. The License Renewal Course offers an integrated program that includes training and assistance in the license renewal process. OFAA covers the entire spectrum of activities for Renewal of PPL, CPL and instrument rating on single and multi-engine aircraft. OFAA provides candidates with the necessary flying hours if any license has lapsed.
Foreign License Conversion
OFAA offers a ‘License Conversion Course’ for valid CPL or CPL/IR license holder that has been issued overseas and intends to convert it to a valid Indian CPL. This course is offered both for single and multi-engine aircraft. OFAA also provides expert guidance required for the License Conversion Examination conducted by DGCA, as per the rules of the Government of India.
With the guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, OFAA offers necessary refresher course to the candidates. This course includes additional flying prior to taking the tests required for license renewal.
B.Sc AVIATION DEGREE PROGRAMME FROM HINDUSTAN UNIVERSITY
OFS offers an excellent opportunity for its pilot trainees to also pursue the B.Sc. Aviation degree programme offered by Hindustan University which is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). MULTI ENGINE ENDORSEMENT
CPL is the basic license, for an individual aspiring to become a professional pilot. However, most airlines recruit pilots, who have an endorsement of Multi engine rating on their license. DGCA specifies a minimum of 10 hours of training on a multiengined aircraft, for such an endorsement. OFS fleet of aircraft includes 2 multi engine aircraft, namely, Piper Seneca PA-34 and King Air C-90. OFS has qualified Instructors and ME examiner to conduct this training on Piper Seneca aircraft

Facilities
- Fleet of aircraft (Training division) – OFAA has a fleet of 3 single Cessna 172R aircrafts used for flying training of students.
- Flight Simulators – Orient Flights has a state-of-the-art ALSIM AL-50 Flight Simulator based at Chennai for student training of all flight profiles, abnormal procedures, emergency drills etc, which may not be possible to be done in a real aircraft, without compromising safety. This is a French manufactured training device, approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The machine is capable of simulating night conditions, poor visibility, and cloudy environment as well as capable of reproducing the exact physical environment at any two chosen airports. Orient Flights has chosen Chennai and OFAA has also acquired a Flightrix Simulator. The simulator is based on Cessna 172R model and will be used by the student to practice their flying and instruments let-downs and sharpen their skills. This will help the student for their actual flying.
- Library – Orient Flights library and resource center has a wide range of reference books, audio & video training CDs / DVDs and training films, to train a student from the ab-initio stage, to the level of ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License). Publications and products from the renowned Aviation majors such as, Jeppesen, Cessna, King Aviation, Royal Air Force, FAA, Oxford publications etc are available in the Resource Centre. In addition to curriculum related material, Orient Flights subscribes to very many aeronautical magazines, periodicals and Newsletters, so that students can be in touch with the ongoing developments in the field of aviation and aero space.OFAA has a reference library at Airport Hangar.
- Classrooms, Avionics lab, Flight briefing & Pre Flight Medical – There are class rooms equipped with modern training facilities located in the Administrative complex of the School. The Complex also hosts a Simulator Lab, The Operations Wing at the Airport complex has a Flight Briefing cum Class room, Pre Flight medical tests are carried out in the same facility.
- Computer Lab, Aviation English and Online Testing – OFAA has a well-furnished computer laboratory, equipped with networked systems hosting software for “anytime learning” and “Ground School” examinations, on various aeronautical subjects. The same Lab is used for training students on “Aviation English” proficiency.
- Seminars and Webinars – A spacious hall named Visvesvaraya Hall is utilized for students and staff to participate in aviation related live webinars, hosted in USA or Europe.
- Question Bank – OFAA has got abundant sets of question banks on various aeronautical subjects, suiting syllabi specified by the Indian DGCA, American FAA or the European JAA. The Question Bank related to the Indian syllabi are periodically revised and updated by the training Faculty. These QBs can be used for Self learning, examination oriented preparation and for self assessment.
- Hostel facilities – There are 2 hostels, one each for boys and girls. They can accommodate about 20 boys and 5 girls respectively. As a permanent measure, at least two staff members (generally the Flying Instructors and Engineers) live in-house at the Boys Hostel, not only to ensure good order and discipline, but also to help the students in their curriculum and training.
- Catering – Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian food is prepared, as per the weekly menu and served to students. In addition, a separate cafeteria functions at the School complex, where students can purchase light snacks, soft drinks and hot beverages on cash payment.
- Transportation – OFAA has a fleet of Light vehicles and Mini Buses to transport Students from Hostels to Class Rooms and Airport, on a daily basis. In addition, these vehicles are also utilized for Airport duty, Field exercises and Study visits of students.
- Placements – Orient Flight School provides placement assistance for meritorious students including individual counselling. Students of OFS work in close association with their instructors towards the progress in their careers and also through the Career Advisory Service.
Meritorious students will be inducted as pilots in our Charter Division, when required.
Over the years, the Alumni of OFS have joined various airlines and successfully pursuing their careers.

Admission Guide
Medical requirement
Candidates are required to meet the medical standard as per the norms laid down by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), New Delhi. At the time of admission, students have to undergo Class II Medical with the DGCA panelized medical examiners. Students are advised to do their equivalent (mock-up) Class I Medical at the time of admission. However, the candidates have to undergo a comprehensive medical investigation conducted at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM), Bangalore, the Central Medical Establishment (CME), New Delhi or at the Airforce Hospital, Jorhat by prior appointment. This is a mandatory requirement before the issuance of the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL). For more details on medical requirements, visit www.dgca.nic.in.
Medium of instruction
As per ICAO standards, medium of instruction followed is English. This language is used for all purpose, whether correspondence, lectures or for ATC communication. For those students whose native language is not English and for those who do not demonstrate fluency in the language (less than 60% in their 12th standard) additional language training is provided at extra cost.
Admission Centers
Admission takes place throughout the year. Interested students can download a copy of the application form from our website or contact our Head office at Chennai.
Those who wish to do particular courses should check up their respective eligibility criteria pertaining to that course.
Application for admission to a course should be made only in the prescribed form, which will be issued along with the prospectus.
Application form duly filled in should be sent only to the Admission Office or handed over in person along with (a) Copy of the Mark Sheet of qualifying examination attested by the Gazetted Officer. (b) Prescribed check Fee.
Application, which are incomplete or not accompanied by the prescribed documents and registration fee, are liable for rejection.
The scrutiny committee will process the application and provisionally select the students on merit.
Shortlisted candidates for Pilot Training Program will have to attend an aptitude test. Final selection will be based on their marks in the qualifying examination, performance in the aptitude test.

7. After scrutiny of the documents and payment of fees, candidates will be issued “Lettter of Admission” and they should report to the Deputy Director / Chief Flight Instructor of the Flight School at Pondicherry for joining the program.
Students who have opted for hostel accommodation should report to the Hostel Manager in the school for the allotment of rooms.
Refund policy
Tuition and other fees prescribed should be paid on or before the stipulated date as per the laid down guidelines. All fees should be made by DD/ Cheque payable to OFAA at Chennai and receipt to be obtained immediately. The refund policy will be as follows and is applicable for the CPL course only:
50% within 1 month
25% within 1-1/2 months
10% within 3 months
No refund will be entertained after the above period. Refund will be made as per the policy prevailing at the time of withdrawal from the course.
Students suspended/dismissed on disciplinary grounds are not entitled for refund and will forfeit their entire fees.
